Outreach and Education

Outreach and Education

Alongside our tangible waste management services, outreach and education is a fundamental component of the AS Recycling Program.  We place a strong importance on educating students and the surrounding community on sustainability and waste reduction.   We work to provide educational programs, activities, events and workshops for campus, local schools and local businesses to improve recycling and composting efforts.  Topics include waste reduction, composting and the hazards and solutions of electronic-waste.  AS Recycling also hosts free quarterly workshops led by local community members at the Eucalyptus Grove on native planting and gardening techniques.

In an effort to reach the UC-wide goal of a 75% diversion rate by 2012, AS Recycling strives to provide dependable services and educational campaigns- in conjunction with other campus organizations- to make UCSB a more environmentally conscious institution.

As an environmentally sustainable organization, AS Recycling is involved in many green campaigns, such as the Compost Pilot Project, which will be launched Winter quarter of 2012.   We believe networking and team building will help us reach our goals of furthering education through promoting sustainable practices of waste reduction and closing the loop in our community.
